POLISH TATRA SHEPHERD It is a breed of dog introduced into the tatra mountain region of sothern Poland by Wallachian shepherds probably in 14th century. It is one of five polish breeds, which is accepted by FCI. This animal husbandry is controlled from about 1920. The first club’s exhibition was in Zakopane in 1973 (there were 65 dogs). The last changes in model were on 8.10.1988. At the beginning, this breed inhabited Tatry and Beskidy mountains, then also has been moved to Sudety and Bieszczady missives. It is a type of sheep-dog, which could be found in Tibet, on Kuakas and in Mongolia, what shows that all these kinds of race originate from Tibetan dog. The shepherd’s dog. His work consists of independent looking after and herding sheep. It also guards houses and gorals’ places (caretaker dog). It’s very easygoing in communication. Before the WWII they were used to caretaker and to patrol by police and army. GOPR (polish mountain rescue watch) uses them as help to find people in Tatra mountains. It is calm, vigilant dog. Likes children. Attaches much importance to his owner. Obedient and very intelligent. |
